OLD IS NO LONGER GOLD
Confined in a room like the bowel
I don't move. The mind too inactive
crashed computer in the corner
needs new CPU or HDD
she says it's not cost effective
better throw it out and buy new one
old is no longer gold. It's useless
without working core components
she sounds right, but how to ease myself
be the same I was years ago?
There's fire and wood but where's the lamb
for a burnt offering?
SHIVALAY
The rain-smoothed walls of Shivalay
shine in sun like the graveled path
now slick with wet mud and cow-dung
obscure footmarks of Monday-worshippers
I forget the sutras today and feel
the damp incense inside like I did
standing in the empty sentry-box
compromising with the rusted letterbox
not opened for years at the left turn
the mime of hope and worship and slow effacement
of illegible signatures on deity’s back
don’t help me flesh my verses or mitigate
pounding rains, rituals and repetitions.
